However, the Razer Basilisk Ultimate also has a lot going for it that makes it worth the price. It has a comfortable and fairly traditional shape. Its side grips offer plenty of grip, making it easy to use in intense gaming situations. At 107 grams, it’s heavy enough to enjoy, but not so heavy that you’re afraid to drop it. It comes with 14 bright RGB lighting zones, with neat effects that you can control via the Chroma Studio module. Along with all its other features, you really get what you pay for, if you can afford it. The Basilisk Ultimate’s RGB lighting contributes greatly to the mouse’s look and price. It has 14 areas of illumination split between the Razer logo on the palm, the scroll wheel and a strip of LEDs on the left side of the mouse. The LEDs are bright and produce some interesting effects, but the shaded control requires a separate Chroma Studio module, which is a bit more complicated than we’d like to see. Macro configuration also requires a separate module. The mouse isn’t the only thing that gets lit up. The Basilisk Ultimate has a wireless charging cradle that also has its own LED strip. It also has special effects, but we think the most convenient is that the color indicates the battery level of the mouse. The ability to charge the mouse by simply placing it on a stand is simple, which keeps the battery level. But even if we forget, the mouse can offer 100 hours of autonomy with the lights off. The Basilisk is not left out when it comes to other features. It has 11 programmable buttons, including two standard thumb buttons, a third thumb paddle that’s actually pretty easy to reach, two buttons under the scroll wheel, and left and right scroll wheel clicks. The scroll wheel itself is interesting, with a wheel under the mouse that allows us to adjust how pronounced and firm the notches are, making it easier to scroll through weapons in games. All the buttons are also consistent, with Razer Optical switches under the mouse offering a 70 million click life. Wireless connectivity is handled with a tiny USB dongle that easily plugs into the charging dock. There is also a small dongle housing on the bottom of the mouse. This wireless connection is integral to the Basilisk Ultimate’s excellent performance. It offers a latency-free experience with a 1,000 Hz polling rate. And the Focus + Optical sensor can handle mouse movements of up to 650 inches per second and 50G acceleration. The mouse stores 5 DPI settings from 100 to 20,000 in 50 DPI increments, as well as an option to set separate sensitivities for the X and Y axes. The takeoff distance can also be set between 1 mm and 3 mm.
