Guide: Adding Fonts to MS Office Online
One of the best things about Microsoft Word is that you can use any font of your choice. Whether it’s a regular font for school essays or a stylish font for your art projects, you must download and install a font of your choice. Easy and simple. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the Office web apps. You cannot add or install a font of your choice. Instead, you have to settle for the limited fonts. So, what do you do in situations like this? One of the most obvious solutions is to switch to Google Docs or Zoho Writer. Or, in worse situations, you can start Office on your PC and run your projects. However, for some unforeseen circumstances, you may not be able to access either of them, we have a quick fix for you. Yes, there is a way to add fonts to Microsoft Office Online web apps. While it comes with its own catch, at least it gets the job done for now.
1. Via Windows 10 fonts
Step 1: Fire up the Windows settings and search for fonts. Select Font Settings from the menu.
Now you will be redirected to the Available Fonts window on your PC. All you need to do is scroll down until you find a font you like and write down the font name.
Click the drop-down list to view the full font metadata and select a font. Step 2: Open an Office app, such as Word or PowerPoint. In my case, I chose Word because I had an ongoing project with it. Select the text from the document and navigate to it Home tab.
Now type the font name in the font text box, hit Enter and voila! You will see the change immediately. Do that for any fonts you want to use in this particular document. And when you need to switch, you can just choose the one from the drop-down list. The disadvantage of this method is that the changes are not permanent. The new font is retained for that specific document. However, if you want to use it in a new Word document or PowerPoint slide, you must redo the above process. I know, it’s a bummer. But that’s the only way for now.
2. Downloaded fonts
For downloaded fonts, the method is almost similar. Just follow the steps below. Step 1: After downloading the font, extract the folder and extract the TTF file.
To install the font, right-click the TTF file, select Windows Font Viewer from the list, and click Install.
On some computers and PCs, you will find the Install option on the right side of the shortcut menu. After the font is installed, open the font settings to check the real name of the font.
All you need to do is type the name in the search box at the top. Once you find it, copy the name of the font. Step 2: Then open one of the web apps such as Word, add the font name to the font text box and press Enter. And that’s pretty much it.
After adding a font, you can always go back to the Windows font settings and delete it. Just open the font and click the Delete button.
Things to keep in mind
I noticed that the Microsoft account used on both the PC and the web app must be the same for the downloaded fonts to work. In my case, I had signed in on my PC with my account while using the business account on Word Online. So when I added the Metal Macabre font to the web app, I couldn’t get it to work. It wasn’t until I started using the same account on both platforms that I was able to get it working. You also need to install the font first and then open the document. If you install a font halfway through your document preparation, you may not get the same results.

1. Smart search
I don’t want to leave the screen; I want to watch up the meaning of the word urgent. Easily use Smart Lookup. Smart Lookup from Microsoft uses Bing, Wikipedia and other resources to help you understand the meaning of words. Simply select the word you want to search up and right-click to transfer up the context menu.

2. Immersive reader
Immersive Reader is available in Word Online, OneNote Online, Outlook.com, Outlook on the web, and the OneNote Windows 10 app. As the name suggests, highlighting the text helps you read more effectively. You can even switch to Read Aloud mode to help you decrypt long documents quickly and easily.
You can change the voice and the speed of dictation. Other than that, you can tweak some of the default settings such as font size, spacing, font and general themes for a pleasant reading experience. In addition, you can also highlight the nouns and verbs from the text. Neat, right?
To access the Immersive View, click the View tab and select Immersive View from the Tools Ribbon.
To exit this mode, just click the Back button button
3. Page breaks and new pages
In Word Online there is no good separation between a new and an old page. By default, it will only show you the total number of pages in the lower left corner. If you’re nostalgic about the good old days of MS Word on PC, luckily there is one more way to make the page go to Word Online. To see where the page ends, go to View and click Page Ends. That gives you a visual clue to identify the area where a page ends so you can structure your paragraphs accordingly.
Then place your cursor on or in front of the page breaks indicators and click Page Break (Insert> Page Break). That is it! Note: The Page breaks line is not displayed when you print the document.
