Guide: Best Chrome Features for Power Users

A browser is a mandate for anyone who wants to access the WWW (World Wide Web). And which browser one chooses depends entirely on what features the browser has to offer. Quite simply, Google Chrome beats the other browsers fair and square in this race. The number of features Chrome has to offer is second to none, making it the best web browser in the world from now on. Google Chrome has a lot going for it, much more than what a regular user will notice. There are hidden features and somewhat experimental features which are usually not available to everyone and you need to enable them specifically. Here we are going to talk about 11 such unique ones features of Google Chrome that you can unlock to become an expert user. Source: Maxpixel Before we start, we need to know what Google has to say about this features: This experimental features can change, break or disappear at any time. We have absolutely no guarantee what will happen if you enable any of these experiments. “ Nevertheless, we have tested it at Guiding Tech features and have benefited. That is why we have decided to share our experience with you.

Open Sesame!

Google Chrome has a handy little secret that is hidden in plain sight. There’s a cool tab with all the experimental stuff going on at Google and you can access it from the address bar.

All you need to do is type the following in the address bar. chrome: // flags When you are done, hit enter and you have unlocked the magical land. Most tech enthusiasts would agree with me here that all of this information seems a bit overwhelming. Don’t worry because there is another cool tool, the humble Find key, which can direct you to a specific resource features in no time.

Use the following combination on any page in Chrome to get the search function. Hold down Ctrl + F keys simultaneously. Now that we’re on the same page (figuratively speaking), let’s start exploring the 11 hidden Google Chrome features for power users. Note: All the tips we share here are for the experimental featuresYou can access it by simply typing “chrome: // flags” in Chrome’s address bar.

1. Generate password

Of all the things we do in a web browser, creating new passwords every time you need to register a new account is literally a pain in the back part of your body.

However, Chrome promises to help by offering password suggestions every time you’re about to create a new account on a web page. Look for the ‘generate password’ option in the list of experimental featuresOnce there, select Enabled from the drop-down menu and the browser will prompt you to restart it.

Agree this feature is turned on, Chrome will automatically suggest a suggestion each time you enter up a form where a password is required, and believe me, it would be better than what you usually use. You are also free to change this feature according to your need, so you don’t lose a password when it is hard to remember.

2. Audio mute user interface

Internet access or, as we usually call it, surfing the web has become very complex and rich in multimedia. Today, websites offer a variety of content and make full use of audiovisual media for maximum impact on the audience.

However, there are times when you listen to your favorite radio channel on a particular music portal and visit another website that plays embedded content. You can choose to move from that tab to continue listening to your radio channel or you can just mute that tab. Just select Enabled as the option under UI Control to mute tabs in the hidden list features and make sure the browser tab changes color to a gradient from gray to white (see below).

3. Important Sites options in the Clear Browsing Data dialog box

Here’s another very important tool that I personally think Google should make public. When clearing browsing data, there are often certain websites that we don’t want to be cleared from history. With this feature, we get the option to store data from just a few websites while everything else is erased.

Chrome has a hidden built-in feature which allows it to exclude certain websites, which the users can choose freely. In the Clear Browsing Data dialog box, go to the Important sites option in the list and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

Once you are done, Chrome will save the sites you instructed to keep, and delete the rest whenever you feel the need to clear your browsing data. Other stories: This is how you activate the automatic completion Feature on Android Oreo

4. WebUSB

What do you think of when you hear the word USB? Pen drives, external hard drives, keyboards and mice likely? Well, it is quite common. However, there are plenty of other USB devices we can use, but unfortunately our computers are unable to install such devices. WebUSB is an important one feature for devices that can be controlled directly from a website and that do not require a computer to act as an intermediary. Source: Wikipedia To enable this, look for the WebUSB option in the list and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

This can be a handy little hack if you use devices such as 3D printers. You can simply connect your printer to the computer and let the website control the device.

5. In-form warnings for sensitive fields

There are some neat ones tricks to improve your security on the experimental list featuresWhile these are not as complex as the features which we have already mentioned but which are quite useful. First up, we have the warnings for sensitive fields such as passwords or credit card information when we are not using an HTTPS page.

This is useful if you conduct a lot of financial transactions with your computer and Chrome is constantly looking for suspicious links. So if there is no HTTPS in the page’s address bar, Chrome will flag it. To enable this, find the option Show in-form warnings for sensitive fields when the top-level page is not an HTTPS option and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

6. Date of last use of credit card for autofill

If you’re a regular online shopper like me, keeping an eye on when you last used the credit card online can be paramount. Google Chrome is also here for you.

With this feature, Chrome can show you the last used date of your credit card on autofill during every online transaction. To activate this feature, look for the Show last used date of a credit card on autofill in the list of hidden features and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

7. WebVR

As with WebUSB, Chrome can also help users take full advantage of virtual reality or VR content in the browser.

There are a number of websites that offer VR content and if you have Chrome you don’t need specialized hardware to view the content. To enable this, look for the WebVR option in the list and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

8. HDR mode

With more and more devices recording 4K video, many content providers upload HDR video to the internet. HDR, which stands for high dynamic range, offers a higher contrast ratio resulting in stunning images and videos.

If you are a Netflix subscriber, you can take advantage of this feature quite often, along with several other services that support online HDR content. To enable it, search for HDR mode in the list and select Enabled.

9. Pause background tabs

With the support for tabbed browsing, Chrome has revolutionized the way we browse the web. Now instead of multiple browser windows, a single window can be opened with multiple tabs. Making this super convenient feature a few steps ahead, Chrome has released some hidden ones features that maximize browser performance. One of them is the ability to pause background tabs.

Every time you leave a tab open in the background, Chrome keeps it active for five minutes and then pauses the tab, providing better performance for active tabs. To enable this, look for the Pause background tabs option and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

10. Reload only visible tabs automatically

Today, most websites rely on something called automatic page refresh to keep their content up-to date. It might sound great, but imagine all your tabs refreshed at the same time. Not so great after all?

Such heavy performance can take a heavy load on system resources and can also cause the system to crash. To address this, Chrome has a built-in featureIt can prevent background tab reloading, save precious resources and provide much better browser performance. To enable this, look for the Automatically reload visible tabs only option and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

11. Automatically discard inactive tabs

Another cool feature that can be very useful is the automatic deletion of tabs. When enabled, Chrome can automatically end inactive tabs when system resources reach a critical point.

This handy feature controls and frees system resource consumption up resources if necessary. To enable this, look for the Automatically remove tabs option and select Enabled from the drop-down menu.

That’s not all, folks!

To be fair, what I’ve told you here is just the tip of the iceberg. But you have to keep in mind that a seemingly harmless iceberg sunk the Titanic. Make sure to take baby steps to adopt these features as these are experimental and can cause some problems. However, these are very useful and I think regular internet users should definitely use a few features if not all. In the future, I’ll be making more such lists of hidden secrets that Google has kept up in his sleeves. So stay tuned!
