Messenger is a real-time, mobile-first messaging service utilized by both consumers and companies. We have updated the backend system extensively over the years in order to facilitate that transformation. A read-through caching service for queries, Iris to queue writes to subscribers (such the storage service and devices), and a storage service to store message history were created from the original monolithic service. This design made Messenger more successful by making it suitable for a mobile-first environment.
Setup
Since its launch, Facebook Messenger has experienced numerous adjustments. Although the app now has a sleek new appearance, stickers, and free phone calling, we’re nonetheless disappointed that Facebook removed the option to send SMS texts. The original Facebook app will do for users who just sometimes read their Facebook inbox and are more interested in their news feed. However, Messenger is still unquestionably the greatest way to quickly and easily access your discussions if you really enjoy speaking with your pals wherever you are.
Design
Facebook Messenger just received a major update that radically changed the way the app looked, adding vibrant, colorful discussion pages and streamlining the friends list. A collection of your most recent active conversations—i.e., all message threads that you haven’t archived or deleted—is displayed on the Recent screen on the home page. You may view the profiles, names, and most recent message sent by each of your friends. Each of your friends’ photos has a small indicator next to it that indicates whether they are currently in a communication app. They are currently signed in and using any of the Facebook Messenger apps if they have the blue messenger icon, which resembles a small lightning strike. The gray Facebook emblem indicates that they are merely logged into the Facebook website; it is unable to indicate whether they are online at the moment.
Interface
Although I enjoy the Chat Heads, receiving voice and video chat works better with Snapchat’s cutting-edge design. With that app, you can respond to a video call with just voice, just text, or just video without ending the call. It’s a small adjustment that results in a far more adaptable experience. The ability of Messenger for Android to completely replace an SMS client may be its most unexpected feature. You have the option to designate it as your primary text message tool during setup. This is fantastic since you can now have both your regular texts and your extravagant messages in one place. It’s a shame that there isn’t a call-replacement app, but I can hope. Due to Apple’s strict controls over the fundamental functions of the phone, iPhone owners are unable to have this kind of experience. The secure communications program Signal can be used to replace SMS clients. You can download this app from its official website.
Performance
Facebook Messenger is now used by more than a billion people to send text, photographs, videos, and other types of content immediately. The underlying technologies that underpin Messenger have undergone significant change as we’ve improved the product and added new features. When Messenger was first created, its main goal was to be a direct messaging service akin to email, where messages would be waiting in your inbox the following time you visited the website.
Chatting with Friends
The Facebook Messenger mobile app should be fully familiar to anyone who has used Facebook to talk on a desktop browser. It allows you to send messages to one or more recipients and react with text, voice recordings, stickers (little still or animated graphics), photo attachments from the Web, or photos taken with your mobile device. To create a new chat where you can send messages, photographs, and stickers, press the + sign at the bottom of the Recent screen. Simply begin entering a friend’s name, and the program will look up matches as you type. You can tap on anyone’s name to resume a conversation that you started in another app or on the website if it is already listed on your Recent page. Similar to Messenger for Windows Phone and iOS, each discussion has a neat, straightforward interface. There are choices to send a photo or add a sticker in the text section where you put your message. You have three options when sending a photo: take a brand-new one, select an existing one from your phone, or look up an image online.
Free Voice Calls
Free VoIP calls are another standout feature of Messenger, which are accessible to users in a few nations, including the US and Canada. Simply hit your phone’s menu button in any chat and select Free Call to place a call. It’s quite easy to use, and the functionality is fantastic. Naturally, your carrier minutes won’t be used, but standard data rates will still be charged. Choose your friend’s phone number from the menu if you wish to call them normally using carrier minutes. That function, meanwhile, is only functional if your friend has provided their phone number on Facebook. Although free voice calling is fantastic, we’d like to see free video calling added to the app, especially since it’s currently possible through your desktop browser.
Features
You can check a person’s Facebook profile or send them a private message when you hover over their tile (if they have one). I decided Messenger Rooms is probably not the ideal choice for business meetings after realizing these features, especially with bosses or any other higher-ups. Even though I truly have nothing to hide on Facebook, I’m not sure how I would feel about the potential of my editor looking through my high school and college profile images.
Conclusion
Since its launch, Facebook Messenger has experienced numerous adjustments. Although the app now has a sleek new appearance, stickers, and free phone calling, we’re nonetheless disappointed that Facebook removed the option to send SMS texts. The original Facebook app will do for users who just sometimes read their Facebook inbox and are more interested in their news feed.
