1. Set up Up Bitmoji and Gboard
Download Gboard and Bitmoji on your Android or iOS smartphones if you haven’t already done so from the link above. I mainly use an Android phone here, but the steps are similar for iOS users. You need to enable Gboard as your default keyboard app in Languages and input in Settings. Do not enable Bitmoji here as we will be using Bitmoji from Gboard.
If you’re using an iPhone, go to General under Settings and choose Keyboards. Tap Add New Keyboard to select Gboard which should now appear in your list of keyboards.
Now open Bitmoji and create a new account or log in with Snapchat. Once you arrive, click on a selfie, adjust its look and feel, and Bitmoji creates many stickers based on the look of your avatar as if you were doing various fun things. You can use these stickers to express yourself in any chat app. The moment you sign in, Bitmoji detects Gboard and prompts you to automatically integrate with it.
Tap Show Me How and you will see onscreen instructions that are simple enough. Tap the Smiley icon and select the Bitmoji icon to instantly access your avatar-inspired stickers.

2. Apps are not supported
Before you start pulling your hair in frustration, keep in mind that it’s entirely possible that the app you’re trying to use with Bitmoji doesn’t support it. Their support page notes that Bitmoji only works in messaging apps that allow “pasting an image of the keyboard into the text field.” I’m using SMS Organizer as my default SMS app on Android and when I try to insert a Bitmoji ‘unsubscribe’ I get an error.
You may also not see an error informing you of the app’s inability to support images in text. Ideally, if you can use Bitmoji in another app like Snapchat or WhatsApp, everything will work fine and there’s nothing to fix.
3. Clear cache and data
On Android, open Settings and under Manage apps, first look for Gboard.
Tap Clear data at the bottom of the screen and select Clear cache. Tap again and this time select Erase all data.
Repeat the process for the Bitmoji app. Once done, open Gboard and set it up up and then open Bitmoji. Follow the steps in point 1 above to set up Bitmoji with Gboard. If this doesn’t work, repeat the steps above to clear all cache and data and delete the app from your mobile Download and reset them all. I know, it’s frustrating, but it shouldn’t take more than a few minutes to see how both apps store account information and settings in the cloud. If you are using an iPhone or iPad, delete the app instead of deleting the app directly. How? Open Settings and under General select iPhone Storage.
There you will find a list of all your apps and how much memory they consume. First, tap on Gboard and tap on Offload App. That will delete the app but keep necessary app data and documents intact.

If unloading does not work as intended, select the Delete app option on the same screen instead of Downloading this time. Start from point 1 above. After following this step, you do not need to update the apps because if you download them from the App or Play Store, you will automatically get the latest version. When you open Bitmoji for the first time after a fresh installation, you will be prompted for storage and other permissions. The app requires stickers on your phone’s memory, so always tap’ Allow ‘.
4. Use minis
Well, you can’t use Bitmoji stickers in Gboard while chatting with friends, which is a shame. But you can always try Gboard Minis. YEP. Launch Gboard and tap the Smiley icon and tap the ‘+’ button below the emoji icon at the bottom.
Tap Create Here to start the process of creating Minis, emojis based on your avatar. Click on a selfie and Gboard will do the rest.
