Guide: Fix ‘Netflix Not Working on Chrome’ Issue
Netflix is a boon to mankind. Every time I get bored and don’t know what to do in my spare time, which is usually the case, it shines like a beacon of hope. Netflix knows what I like better than my friends and while it’s all fun and fun, there are the occasional mistakes that can ruin the experience. I think my heart stopped knocking for a moment. Netflix throws up mistakes every now and then and it can be very annoying to understand what they mean as well how to solve them. That’s why today I’m reviewing 6 common Netflix Chrome errors and how to fix them. Let’s start.
1. Netflix error code C7053-1803
This is one of the most common Netflix error codes. It appears when Netflix is unable to refresh the data stored locally in your Chrome browser and is forced to use old data. Follow the steps below to resolve this error code. Type chrome: // settings in the URL or click the menu icon and click Settings.
Scroll to the bottom of the page to find the Advanced option.
Scroll to the bottom of the page again to find Reset clean up option. Select Restore Settings to Their Defaults.
You will see a pop-up with a warning that you will lose your pinned tabs, startup pages and search engine preferences and that all temporary data will be deleted. Bookmarks and other saved data will remain untouched, so don’t worry about that.
Click Reset Settings. Now go back and launch Netflix to check if the issue is resolved. Note that all extensions will be disabled, but you can always enable them again.
2. Unexpected error code
This is when Netflix doesn’t know what the hell is happening and throwing up this: Open chrome: // settings / clearBrowserData in a separate tab. This URL opens the cache options.
You will see a pop-up. Select Time range as Always and select Cookies and other site data and Cached images and files. Click Clear data. Keep in mind that clearing cookies and site data will automatically log you out of all sites. If you have any unsaved work, I recommend that you save it and finish what you were doing before doing this step.
Go back to Netflix and log back in. It should work now.
3. Chrome version
It might be possible that a newer version of Chrome is available and you are still rocking an old version. Enter chrome: // version / in the URL in a separate tab to check the current version of Chrome.
How do you update Google Chrome or even know if you are running the latest stable version or not? Easily. Just click on the menu icon (3 vertical dots) in the top right corner of your tab and look for the Update Google Chrome option.
Don’t see that option in the screenshot above? This means that I am already on the latest version of Chrome. The update icon appears only when needed. If the icon is present, click it to update your Chrome browser. All your open tabs and windows will be saved and reopened when the browser is restarted, but you may lose some data, so save your work before continuing. Go incognito
One of the things that make Chrome so great is the extensions. Some of them, such as LastPass and Pocket, are a lifesaver. But some of them can also disrupt other services which can lead to faulty services. The fastest way to check if an extension is causing problems is incognito mode. By default, almost all extensions are disabled in this mode. In Chrome, press CTRL + SHIFT + N to open a new Chrome window in Incognito mode. In my case, all extensions except LastPass were disabled.
Now launch Netflix in the Incognito window to see if the problem persists. If not, you will need to disable all extensions and re-enable them one by one to see which one is the culprit. There is no other way.
5. Malware Problems
Malware attacks can be a nightmare. While there are many third-party software to remove malware, not many people know that Google Chrome comes with a built-in malware removal tool. Click on the menu button in the top right corner of your screen and go to Settings or type chrome: // settings / in the URL and hit enter. Just like before, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the Advanced option. Under Reset and cleaning up, you will find Clean up computer option.
Google helps you find and remove malicious software on your computer that may be conflicting with Chrome. Click on Search button in blue color.
Google will now start checking for malicious software on your PC and may ask you to remove some of the installed programs. If it finds something, delete it and see if Netflix works now.
6. Blank screen error
Sometimes Netflix just draws a blank. The popular streaming service shows a blank screen with a red loading icon that keeps moving in circles, for what appears to be, forever. At first you will wait for your episode to load, but soon you will realize that this problem is not caused by a slow internet connection. It is a strange mistake of the third kind! Here’s a quick (read odd) fix that will let you quickly resume watching Black Mirror from where you left off. Open Firefox or Edge browser, copy the URL of the show / movie you were watching and paste it directly back into Chrome. You should be able to resume where you left off. Once done, try one of the solutions above to see if the problem is resolved.
