Guide: How to Chrome’s Bookmarks Bar Productive
The bookmarks bar is the most underused space in a browser. More often than not, it is there, but is not being used to its fullest. Today I will tell you about it how to add your favorite websites to the bookmarks bar, how to customize them, organize them in folders and clean them up the mess if you’ve been a bookmark hoarder. Bookmark bars feel empty with no bookmarklets, right? We have arranged that too. Read on for more information.
1. Enable the bookmarks bar
In Chrome, you can press Ctrl + Shift + B to show / hide the bookmarks bar right away.
2. Add websites to the bookmarks bar
You can click the bookmark icon and then select the bookmarks bar as the destination, but there is a much faster way to do this.
From the address bar, highlight the URL for the website and drag it to the bookmarks bar. With this method there is no pop-up or something.
3. Use Favicon and delete the titles
There is only a limited amount of space in the bookmarks bar, and when you create a new bookmark using the drag-and-drop method, the page’s default title is automatically added.
To remove this title, right-click on the bookmark and click Edit. The Name field is already highlighted. Just hit the backspace key, then the enter key and you’re done.
4. Open multiple sites using folders
Right-click anywhere on the bookmarks bar and select Add folder to create a new folder.
Now drag your favorite websites from the address bar or bookmarks bar to the folder. To open all links in a folder, move your cursor over the folder and press the mouse wheel buttonIf you have a laptop, double-tap the trackpad and select Open all bookmarks trick
5. Bookmark Important, Update pages
What to bookmark and what to send to Pocket / Instapaper? That is the age-old question. If it’s something you want to come back to soon, you’d better leave it in the bookmarks bar so you can always see it in your field of view.
Sort your bookmarks mess
If you’re a heavy bookmark, your journeys will go well beyond the bookmarks bar. It doesn’t take long for the Other Bookmarks folder and subfolders to get bloated.
Use the SuperSorter Chrome extension to logically sort bookmarks, remove duplicates (a godsend), and merge folders.
7. Bookmarklets
As I said, the bookmarks bar is empty with no bookmarklets. Think of bookmarklets as extensions that are not suitable for up any RAM or processing power. They serve a very specific purpose and are always there when you need them. Bookmarklets can remove formatting from a page or share a video on your favorite social network with one click. We’ve rounded up 21 such incredibly useful bookmarklets in this list; have a look and have fun!
