Guide: Limiting Responses in Google Forms: Guide

Google Forms makes it easy to create surveys, polls and quizzes. That’s why it’s a popular choice among similar polling and survey services. The simple interface means anyone with a valid Gmail account can create a form or post a comment. Sometimes surveyors can be inundated with comments, especially if you posted the link on a social media platform such as Instagram or Twitter. And analyzing and going through all of the answers can be a tough affair, especially if it’s a time-bound survey. So, if you’re looking for ways to limit responses on Google Forms, you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we will explore three methods today. While the first method has the built-in feature, the other two are third-party add-ons. So let’s get started without further ado.

1. Built-in Feature

Yes, Google Forms has a handy one feature which allows you to stop accepting answers whenever you want. All you need to do is go to the Responses tab of your form and turn off the switch for accepting responses. Add a message if you want, and that’s about it.

The problem with this method is that you have to manually turn off the toggle every time a form reaches a certain threshold. Not to mention the time wasted in monitoring the number of submissions. Fortunately, the following add-ons solve the problems with ease.

2. formLimiter

The aptly named formLimiter add-on offers a lot of customization features to the humble Google Forms ‘Accept Responses’ switch. This allows you to limit the number of responses and specify the date and time after which the form will stop accepting responses. Handy, right? As with other add-ons, installing formLimiter is easy. Once you’ve opened a form, tap the three dots button in the top right corner and select Add-ons to open the Add-ons window.

Now search for Form Limiter, click on the Plus button, and give the necessary permission. To restrict responses, create your form and click on the add-ons button and select from Limiter. Then choose the limit type.

If you don’t want to accept replies after a certain amount of time, the date and time is the way to go. Otherwise, select the second.

Then add the number of days (or date & time), add the message and submit the form. Check the email option at the same time. That’s a simple hack that lets you know when the limit has been reached, so you don’t have to waste time checking up on comments. Once the form has exceeded the limit, users will see an automatic response as below.

The best thing about formLimiter is that it doesn’t require a separate login. It’s simple, easy to use, and you can easily turn it off when not needed. Add formLimiter

3. Manage the acceptance of responses

Yes, that’s the name of the add-on. This one goes a step further than formLimiter and lets you add the start time of the quiz or survey. For example, if you want the survey to take place after two days, you can do it with this add-on.

Other than that, it has the usual features such as adding the due date, time or number of submissions. To use this add-on, activate it via the Add-on icon. Now uncheck the ‘Start immediately’ box and enter the time and date you want the survey or quiz to start. Add the stop criteria and optionally a custom message at the same time. When you’re done, click Save and Deploy button Add control to accept responses

4. Timify.me

Timify.me works with a different type of limit: time. Yes, this little add-on helps put a stopwatch on your Google forms and comes in handy when preparing time-limited quizzes or mini-tests.

However, Timify.me doesn’t follow the same steps as the above two add-ons. It has its own interface, and when you enable the add-on (on a particular form), the same form would be visible in Timify’s interface. The good news is that with Timify.me you can create custom links for your users. And all links can be used only once, which allows you to get rid of duplicate forms. More importantly, you can customize the start and end screens to make your forms look more professional and sleek.

To use it, first create the form according to your requirements. Once done, tap the add-ons button, select Timify.me> Configure and check the Enable add-on box.

After that, open the dashboard and you will see your recently created form in the left pane. Then select Create links and enter the name of your attendees. If this seems cumbersome, you can import the respondents from another form.

Once you’ve entered the time, click Create buttonYou will see custom links next to all names.

Now all you have to do is share the links with your respondent. They see a timer at the top of their screen. Add Timify.me
