Guide: Make Transparent Back­ground in Paint 3D

An image with a transparent background appears more powerful. You may be wondering why? Well, there is no background to distract you. Second, you can create a new image by adding the transparent image on top of a larger image to make them blend perfectly. Most importantly, you can use any color as a background as it is transparent by default. Hence, it makes sense to make an image transparent. But how do you do that without installing third-party software on Windows? That’s where Paint 3D, the updated version of our beloved Paint, comes in. First you need to remove the existing background by selecting the object. The background can be any color – white, red, pink, black, etc., or any pattern. Next, transparency should be added, followed by saving the image with transparency. Do not you worry. We’ve covered the steps in detail here. Let’s jump in.

1. Select Object using Magic Select Tool

To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Open your image in Paint 3D. Step 2: Click the Magic Select tool in the top bar.

Step 3: A selection box will appear. Use the corners or sides of the box to select the portion of the image whose background you want to change. Then click Next on the right.

Step 4: Paint 3D automatically detects the object in the selection. When you are satisfied with the selection, click Done on the right. Otherwise, use the Add or Remove tools also present on the right side to change the selection. Click the Add tool, then select the part of the image you want to add to your selection. Similarly, click Delete Tool and click the area you want to delete.

Step 5: Once you hit Done button, you will see a new box appear outside the selected image to indicate that it is now a separate object. You can use the various tools on the box to rotate or flip the image.

2. Remove background in Paint 3D

There are two ways to remove the background.

Method 1: remove background

Step 1: With the image selected, drag it out of the background with your mouse.

Step 2: Click the Selection tool at the top and select the entire background. You will see dashed lines appear around the selection.

Step 3: Now click on Delete button on the right or press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Step 4: You will see the background turn white. Click once on the object and drag it back onto the white background.

We have successfully removed the background. It’s time to make the background transparent. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the section ‘Making white background transparent’ below.

Method 2: using a new file

Another way to remove the background is to create a new image. Here are the steps: Step 1: After the Magic Select tool has extracted the image, right-click on it and select Copy from the menu.

Step 2: Click the menu icon at the top and choose New. A bang-up appears and prompts you to save the previous image. Click Do Not Save.

Step 3: A new blank image opens with a white background. Right-click on it and select Paste from the menu.

Your copied image without the old background will appear on the white background.

Now it is time to remove the background completely.

3. Make a white background transparent

Finally, if you have your image on a white background, you can make it transparent. To do that, click on the Canvas option at the top and turn on the toggle for Transparent canvas on the right. Tip Right-click on the image and select Canvas Options. Then turn on Transparent canvas.

Once you do this, you will see the white background disappear and your image will become transparent.

4. Save transparent image

With the backdrop out of the way, it’s time to save our lives final statue. To do this, follow these steps: Step 1: Click the menu icon and select Save As from the menu with the format as Image.

Step 2: Next, you have to take care of two things. First, the dropdown should show under Save as PNG (Image). If it shows a different format, please change it to PNG (image). Second, the Transparency box should be checked.

Saving the file in PNG format is extremely important. If you save in JPG, which is different from PNG, you will lose transparency. Tip: If you forget to make the white background transparent using Canvas options, check the box next to Transparency when saving the image. It should trick Step 3: Finally, click Save buttonYou will be asked to assign a name and choose the storage location. Congratulations! Your image with a transparent background is ready. Note: Although we will first make the background white and then delete it, you must also follow all the steps above for images with the white background.
