The NC9 earphones are straightforward, smooth, and elegant. They are understated, with no logo visible while wearing only an encircled letter ‘L’ and ‘R’ to indicate which side is correct. TOZO is only inked on the inside. The outer faceplates are matte black and are attached to a high gloss black inner body. The nozzle is integrated into the body, and the ear tips are held in place by a small retention ring. The build quality appears to be excellent, with no rough surfaces and all parts fitting together perfectly. The compact pill-shaped clam shell style case opens and closes easily and securely thanks to a magnetic closure (not mechanical). There are also magnets in each earphone cup to help them fit properly into the case for charging. When charging and not plugged in, the earphones have a charging indicator light, and the case’s indicator lights flash every three seconds. When the case is plugged in and charging, up to four lights illuminate on the front of the case to show how much charge the case’s battery has stored. These small lights are not distracting and are greatly appreciated. The bodies are made of lightweight plastics or a composite material. For extended periods of listening, the silicone ear tips are flexible and comfortable; the weight is not noticeable after hours of listening.
